# Buy now, pay later

> Split the cost into fixed instalments, without a full financing application.

Where your dealer offers it, BNPL splits your total into equal fixed instalments.

## How it differs from financing

|              | BNPL                            | [Financing](/buyer-docs/pay/financing) |
| ------------ | ------------------------------- | -------------------------------------- |
| Application | Minutes, during checkout | Full credit application |
| Decision     | Usually instant                 | Minutes to a few days                  |
| Credit check | A quick eligibility check       | A hard credit check                    |
| Structure | Fixed equal instalments | Term and rate you choose |
| Term         | Shorter                         | Up to 84 months                        |
| Best for | Smaller amounts and accessories | Full vehicle purchases |

<Tip>
  BNPL suits smaller totals. For a full vehicle, financing usually gives better terms and a payment you can actually live with over a longer period.
</Tip>

## How it works

<Steps>
  <Step title="Choose buy now, pay later at checkout" />

  <Step title="Complete the quick eligibility check">
    Takes minutes, with no lengthy application.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Review your plan">
    The number of payments, the amount of each, and the schedule are all shown **before you commit**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Confirm">
    Payments are then taken automatically on schedule.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Read the plan before confirming

<Warning>
  Check the total you will pay across all instalments, not just the size of each one. Also check what happens if a payment fails, since late or missed payments can carry fees and may affect your credit depending on the provider.
</Warning>

## Payments come out automatically

They are taken from your account on a fixed schedule, so make sure the funds are available on those dates.

## Questions about your plan

The instalment plan is between you and the BNPL provider. For questions about payment dates, amounts, or a missed payment, contact them directly. Your dealer can tell you who the provider is.
