# Credit or debit card

Card payments confirm immediately, so your order proceeds without waiting for funds to clear.

## Limits are the catch

  Vehicles often cost more than a card will allow in one transaction. You may be limited by your own credit limit, a maximum transaction amount, or a processor restriction.

  If your card is declined on amount rather than funds, this is usually why. Use [bank transfer](/buyer-docs/pay/ach) instead.

Cards are frequently used for a **down payment** rather than a full vehicle purchase, which sits comfortably within normal limits.

## Before you use a large amount

  Tell your card issuer first. An unusually large transaction is exactly what fraud systems block, and a call to your bank beforehand avoids a decline that has nothing to do with your available credit.

## Fees

Card payments can carry processing costs that bank transfer does not. For a full vehicle purchase, [ACH](/buyer-docs/pay/ach) is usually cheaper.

## Refunds

Refunds go back to the same card and typically take a few business days to appear, depending on your issuer.
